Forces Family Support

Here at Peel Common Nursery and Infant School we take your child’s education seriously, we understand that the experience of a service child is different from that experienced by his or her civilian friends.

Each posting might mean another new school and we recognise that a service child can attend upwards of five different schools before they reach the age of sixteen.  Children also have to cope with leaving friends behind and making new ones with each move.

"Thank you for everything you have done for my daughter.  She has loved coming to the club and it has been helpful for me to know there is a teacher she felt close to and could come to when she felt sad" Year 2 Parent

We also appreciate it is not always easy for parents either as they step into yet another new school community for their child, whilst also dealing with the impact of a serving family member being sent away on deployments around the world.

"There has been fantasic support for myself and our family.  My daughter loves going to group and loves telling me about what she has done.  I always know that I can go for support and advice or even just a friendly chat" Year 2 Parent

To reduce some of the impact of these anxieties we offer the service of Anita Clements our Home School Link Worker, who is also trained as an ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) and EFA (Emotional First Aider).

"Your support and commitment is outstanding.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts" Year 2 Parent

Anita runs lunchtime clubs for children who have a parent away on deployment. This is a very relaxed, social time allowing children to meet other children in the same situation. Children eat lunch whilst having the opportunity to discuss how they're feeling. They then have the opportunity to write an e-bluey to the deployed parent and read any replies to them through this group. Anita will feedback any fears and concerns discussed by a child in the group back to the relevant parent should she feel it is significant and needs to be shared.

Anita is a great point of contact should you experience difficulties as a parent, if she cannot give you the answer to your query or concern straight away, she will endeavour to find out as soon as possible and get back to you.  Anita is also available should you just need a friendly ear and a cup of tea to share both your good times and bad, don't hesitate to contact her via the School Office, her work email or mobile phone.
