Catch-up Premium

What is Catch up premium?

The Government has allocated funding to each school to support “Catch-up”

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-catch-up-premium#use-of-funds

This Dfe guidance states: Schools should use this funding for specific activities to support their pupils to catch up for lost teaching over the previous months, in line with the guidance on curriculum expectations for the next academic year.

Amount of funding received by Peel Common Nursery and Infant School

School allocations are calculated on a per pupil basis from reception to year 11 inclusive. At our school we have benefited from the catch up premium receiving £10,080.

Using catch up funding At Peel Common Nursery and Infant School

We recognise that some of our children will require support to make up for lost teaching and learning as a result of the coronavirus and the disruption to education that this has caused. We undertook an assessment of each child in September 2020 and a further assessment in April 2021. We continue to monitor gaps in knowledge that manifest as the academic year progresses. Our catch up funding is being used to provide individual and small group support to children that have been identified by our teaching staff. We have allocated time from one of our teachers as well as support from both LSAs and ELSA to provide the support needed.

The time was initially targeted to catch up with phonics and has since moved on to writing skills so that the children can continue with the next steps in their educational journey.
